Species Information

The most common physical attribute they have are the gems within their ears and tails, being enchanted from the magic-streaked meteors that landed so long ago. There are essentially three ways a Hosekiko can be born: reincarnation, natural birth, and magical birth.Hosekiko born from reincarnation will, more often than not, have a physical appearance resembling the creature they were in their previous life, but there have been cases of Hosekiko being born from fictional or mythological characters, although rare. Whether or not they retain their past memories is a toss up, with no pattern or conditions for it to go one way or the other.Hosekiko from both natural and magical birth will resemble their parent(s). Magical birth babies can come from any couple or single Hosekiko wanting to be a parent, as there is a time for anyone with the right competence to be granted a gem they can infuse a part of themselves into and raise a child from. All Hosekiko are almost immortal, thanks to the enchanted gems that fuel their being. They appear to age as the same rate as humans from infancy to their teenage years, but usually slow down once they reach 25 years of age.Because the gems are essentially their life force, the Hosekiko needs them to survive. A Hosekiko's gem cannot be broken as easily as a regular gemstone. In theory, their gems can be broken or removed, but that would be incredibly painful for the Hosekiko and removes a large fraction of their long lifespan and magical ability. Once the gem itself is removed, the magic dies out and it becomes a normal gem.Any Hosekiko already born with a cracked or missing gemstone will not have as many issues as one that had theirs removed, but they will have slightly shorter lifespans and the possibility to have more unstable magic, if they have any at all.

Subspecies

Wisps

They could be considered the ghosts of the Hosekiko world, but truly they only have a weak gem enchantment not allowing them to materialize properly.Wisps live quite normally regardless of the lack of tangibility, but because they have a weak gem foundation it is quite uncommon for them to have magic, and when they do it’s considerably more meager compared to normal magic handlers.Their presence can be seen but unable to touch, making them immune to physical attacks. However, they are much more susceptible to any magical attacks considering their lack of magic themselves. This subspecies often passes sooner than the normal Hosekiko species, as they don’t have enough magic to sustain themselves for as long.Wisps lack a complete physical form, always appearing glossy and translucent. If they concentrate their magic enough, they can be tangible for moments, but if they do this for too long they can end up exhausted.Wisps often have loose tendrils of wisps following and weaving around them. These tendrils of light smoke often act as an extension or unraveling part of the Wisps’ soul.

Galaxial Gems

Within an infinite space, Galaxial Gems can be born. They are the aftermath of shooting stars colliding with an enchanted gem developing an already existing soul. Those belonging to this subspecies are expected to live longer since they have more magic capability than the average Hosekiko. They tend to have a bright iridescent sheen eluding from their gems and eyes. Along with many other traits embedding stardust and stars into their appearance. Most of them have constellations of their birth month (western horoscopes) on their skin.

Cursed Crystals

Cursed Crystals are Hosekiko born with a curse that causes them to deteriorate from an early age.Usually, they have broken appearances, with actual rips and cracks appearing on their skin. Damage to their body may be more intense and grotesque as well.Like Hosekiko, with Cursed Crystals it’s a gamble to have any memories of their previous lives. But unlike Hosekiko, Cursed Crystals tend to die earlier. Their gems are infected by a mutation that eats away at the gem’s magic, and even the body and mind like a parasite. Hence, they tend to perish earlier.————For a long time, Cursed Crystals have been ostracized for their appearances, as their broken and mangled appearances made them seem scary and dangerous. But due to recent research, it was learned that the curse only affected the Hosekiko physically and it does nothing to anything to their psyche directly.Ways to heal and soothe the effects have been found. However, a completely working cure has not been found. As to what causes this, not much is known. It’s widely believed that there was a speck of something that fell into the meteors that gave them magic, and that something makes the curse appear in some Hosekiko.

GemDolls

One of the two strongest forms of a Hosekiko, the other being a crossbreed. There are two core components to a GemDoll, its emotion and its item. They are born with and fueled by the intense emotions of another Hosekiko, be it from a longing dream, a passionate love, or a blind rage. This emotion will cause a “spark,” that flies off until it hits an item and brings it to life. All their (usually very powerful) abilities come from this intense spark. It’s rare for a GemDoll to meet the Hosekiko who sparked it, but when it does happen, there is almost an instant connection between the two (whether it’s good or bad, may depend on the emotion.)The emotion that sparked them will initially be all the GemDoll will feel, but as it grows, it may develop and learn more. There is the possibility that it will stay one-dimensional, though. The item the GemDoll was born from plays a big role with how they present, usually being the basis of their size and appearance. Any material, shape, or attributes the item has might translate itself as a body part, from skin being made of metal or wood, to yarn hair, to a sharp and sword-like arm.Commonly, a GemDoll will carry the gem and animal attributes of the Hosekiko that sparked them, unbeknownst to either. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. In actuality, since the power of the GemDoll is made from emotion, the gems on their ears and tail are only a byproduct of being made from a Hosekiko and aren’t actually integral to them. They have one gemstone that does matter to them, their core that only they have, which allows them to summon a copy of the item they were made from. They live for longer than a regular Hosekiko, but if they ever die, they turn back into an item.————Within the Hosekiko universe, GemDolls are largely unknown, due the lack of research from how rare they are. Most of the time, a GemDoll won’t even be aware it is one, as it is more-or-less born just like any other. (And no one really shows off their core anyways.)

Crossbreeds

One of the two strongest forms of a Hosekiko, the other being a GemDoll.Crossbreeds are special Hosekiko that are or look like they have been crossed with another, be it between its own subspecies, or another creature or species entirely. They may retain key Hosekiko traits, such as the gems in their ears and on their tail, but with the traits of other species like unusual limbs, multiple heads, eyes, and more.

Lore

The Origin

Thousands of years ago, there in the endless bounds of space, four entities sparked into existence all at once. These entities carried infinite power and magical essence, but were aimless in life and direction. They together wafted across universes and realms until they stumbled on a single planet. Most of what they saw on it was just like the rest, as beautiful as others would consider the life and scenery on that planet, they did not bat an eye. Instead, their focus immediately landed on a beautiful rock on the ground, shimmering and glittering in the light.Inspired, they looked to this planet and discovered many different rocks, of which they learned were “gemstones,” of diverse colours and shapes. Filled with immense love for these glamorous items, they chose to manifest their physical forms using the gemstones they favoured.Compelled to create more of what they loved, they set out to make their own world. One full of gemstones and crystals and all they adored. They named the world “Home”. The people here were made in the image of what they loved, so although they also looked like the humans on the planet they found, they all bore gems somewhere on their body. The four entities granted the inhabitants' wishes, answered all their prayers, and kept the balance of the world. They lived among them (with more-human forms,) and were beloved and regarded as the world’s deities. As they didn’t have true names, people called them after their gems: Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Collectively, they were known as the Precious Four. The more they lived, the more they changed. Despite the differences the Four had, their biggest goal was to make a beautiful world they could all love, so their Home was harmonious.Of course, until news of a powerful meteor shower heading towards them. No one thought much of it, as they contained faith that the Four could save them, until people came to find out their prayers could no longer be answered. All four of the deities had vanished, and there was not even a single crumb of debris from the meteors....They had put themselves between the planet and the meteors, crumbling them to bits and carrying their shards across dimensions and universes.

GemSweets

The Hosekiko currency consists of pastel gems filed down to take the appearance of marbles. These marbles are called GemSweets, or GS for short. They aren’t as sweet as the name may suggest; they're quite bitter. These pieces of currency are generally in a range of pastel colors which determines it’s amount or worth. The GemSweets color guide is as such:

In-universe

The term GemSweets was coined by Hideki Itou, the previous Capital Gem of the Caves. Initially, they didn't have an official name, and were just referred to as the currency of Hosekiko. But once he started ruling, his first change in his region was to start the usage of the term GemSweets. It was quickly used despite the overall confusion of the people, but they didn't really have a choice but to follow.

IRL

In the real world, GemSweets can be used in buying shop items and special adopts! They are however exclusive to the Discord server. There are many ways to earn GS, including:

  • Checking in to the Discord server daily

  • Drawing or writing about Hosekiko

  • Making adopts

  • Participating and/or winning in events

This is the Hosekiko Trait Guide, going in-depth with how Hosekiko are designed, to (hopefully) make creating an MYO or adopt easier for you. Remember that you can't make a Hosekiko without a slot or proper permissions! The information below contains general explanations of each section, and visual references with a written list of shown traits below it.

Ears or Tail

  • For creatures that don't have the traditional kemonomimi ears/tail, they can look like whatever as long as they follow the traits and they don't have the characteristics of other creatures.

  • They can also have human ears.

  • In special cases, some creature traits can be used as a replacement for ears/tails when they don't have them. Ex. angel halo replacing ears, wings replacing tails, horns replacing ears, etc.

  • Additional traits on creatures (ex. horns on goats, wings on birds) don't have to follow these traits.

  • These can be mixed and stacked.

  • SPECIFIC NOTE: Natural patterns (cheetah, tiger) are considered Natural as long as they have their natural colours. If they have unnaturally-coloured patterns, they are Patterned. Of course, unnatural colours without pattern are just Natural. Here's a mini-guide to visualize.

Common

  • Stone

  • Natural

Uncommon

  • Pattern

  • Soil (clay, sand, dirt, mud)

Rare

  • Metals

  • Gem (own gem only, unless using the "Sundry" mutation.)

Legendary

  • Gaseous

  • Elements (fire, water, etc. can't be multiple)

Mutations

  • You need a mutation trait to be able to use one.

  • (*) This trait can only use the Hosekiko’s own gem, unless using the "Sundry" mutation.

  1. Sundry - Different gemstones on one Hosekiko. The number of gemstones in each ear stays one, unless you have an uncommon trait or the Myriad mutation.

  2. Myriad - Three or more gems in each ear/tail. Gemstones should stay the same.*

  3. Metal Gems - The gems within the ear/on the tail are made of metal (gold, silver, etc.) instead of gemstones.

  4. Fool’s Gems - Where the gem is either manmade or fictional.

  5. Gem Capsule - The gem is hollow and has something inside. It can be cracked open or translucent.

  1. Crystal Curls - Hair made of gemstone. It must be the Hosekiko's gem.*

  2. Gem Vision - Eyes made of gemstone. It must be the Hosekiko's gem.*

  3. Crystallized Skin - Skin made of gemstone. It must be the Hosekiko's gem.

  4. Crystal Growth - Crystal protruding from the Hosekiko. It can be any generic crystal or the Hosekiko's gem.

  5. Floating Gems - Multiple shards or gems surrounding the Hosekiko. Can't be deactivated, actively controlled, or stopped.

Magic

Magic doesn't have any rarity or limitations, however it is an integral part to Hosekiko and so is included in the guide. As Hosekiko are born through the power of an enchanted gem, it's common to see some bearing magic abilities. Powers are not found in every Hosekiko, but a majority of them do have some sort of power. There's absolutely no limit to what powers and abilities you can give your Hosekiko. They can have multiple, if you desire. However, there is a chance that if the Hosekiko's gem is damaged or lost, the abilities they have may be weak or unstable.
